Weight Watchers International, Inc was founded in the 1960s by Jean Nidetch. It offered various dieting products to help people lose weight and maintain their goal weight. The comapny (headquaters New York) initially started off as a discussion group which has grown to a company and now operates in 30 countries around the globe. From 1978 until 1999 the company was owned by the H.J Heinz Company which produced food under the Weight Watchers brand name. Weight Watchers went public in 2001. New members agree to weight loss goals with a 'leader' (who has lost weight with WeightWatchers) and find out all about the 'Switch' programme. This comprises of two choices - The Core Plan and The Points Plan. Each week members have a confidential weigh-in to track their progress. The member can share what works with other members and stay motivated.

Once a member reaches their goal weight and maintains that weight for six weeks they become Lifetime Weight Watchers members. They can then attend any number of meetings anywhere for free, but there are conditions - members have to stick to as closely as possible to their goal weight and weigh in at least once per month.

Weight Watchers online gives the customer interactive resources to follow their plan step-by-step online. They can access interactive tools and guides to help them reach their goals and take control. Members can easily manage their food choices and activities. The site also has hundreds of delicious healthy recipes.
